Mill Operators

Help Us Feed the World!

We’re always looking for talented individuals to join our operations team. Could you be that person? Read on!

Feed milling is our largest division. Our mills make feed for poultry, swine, and dairy. As a mill technician, you’re on the front lines of production and helping our customers to feed the world.

Feed is made with natural products like corn and soybean meal and with various nutritious products. The process starts when those ingredients are received in grain and ingredient receiving. Grain receivers use an auto probe to take a sample of the load. The auto probe is operated inside the grain receiving area.

The receiver then tests the load to ensure they meet our quality standards before then enter our silos.

Ingredient operators receive other ingredients like soybean meal and bakery. Ingredients are often received by rail and truck. A sample is taken of every load and randomly sampled in our lab to ensure supplier quality and to create a matrix of ingredient values for our formulation.

Many of the processes in the mill are controlled by computers. From our control rooms, our mill technicians can monitor many parts of the process.

Small ingredients are added in two ways – via a microsystem or with hand adds.

Mill technicians are responsible to monitor the mixing process through our state of the art computerized mixing system. They also add small amounts of vitamins, minerals and medications when needed to each batch of feed. Once mixed, they review and verify each load of feed was made to specification prior to shipping.

Some feed is pelleted in a process where steam is added to the mash ingredient mixture and forced through a die to form a small pellet. Pelleted feed is important for the proper feeding of animals raised for their meat – like broiler chickens and pigs. Mill technicians operate the pellet mills and change the dies to make different size pellets.

The rest of your day may be filled with checking bagged and grain inventories, minor maintenance duties, and general housekeeping.

We’re a growing company in a stable industry. Mill technicians have advancement opportunities as Team Leaders and Mill Supervisors. We have a dedicated trainer to help get you up and running, and our Quality Team and Safety Team holds on-site trainings to ensure you are working safe and making a quality product.
